Day #40 - 4/21/2011 - Mammoth Lakes, CA

Up at 6am; there’s fresh powder everywhere.
I love the sight of fresh powder in the morning...it looks like...victory.
Fresh powder demands a freshly waxed board.
Waxing a board (or skis) reduces friction.  In powder, it helps you keep your speed up in the flats.  It is an act of snowboard-love.  (I didn't really say that.)
The morning started off promising, even though it was like stepping into a blizzard once I was out the door and on the lift…it didn’t matter as I was geared for the weather.
The key to a great day on the board (or skis) during a blizzard is to dress for the occasion: layers, no exposed skin, impervious gloves, toe warmers, and an iPod that has a bluetooth connection to the speakers built into your helmet.  Yes, my eyes are closed.
Hopping off the first chair lift, the powder was exhilarating as only snowboarding on powder can be.   Unfortunately, the winds shut down most of the mountain.  I did 6 runs through trees and powder before calling it a day.

But, it was still a blast.
