Day #68 - 5/19/2011 - Pierre, South Dakota - getting ready to return to the road

A quiet night at the Super 8 Motel (still our cheap motel-of-choice) in Pierre.  The Super 8 offers a decent breakfast – dry cereal, hot cereal, make-your-own waffles with some local variation, such as the biscuits and gravy we’ve seen through Montana and SD.

We unloaded the rental car, reassembled the bikes and rode them over to the only cycle shop in town to have them tuned up;  they’d be ready late on 5/20.  Marvelous...two more nights in Pierre.

I drove the car to the small airline terminal in Pierre and the Avis counter where I was faced with the mother of all rental car bills.  The woman behind the rental counter couldn't control herself, "Hey!  Look at this rental car bill!  Wow!" as she ran uncontrollably around the Pierre Airport lounge showing the bill to everyone in her path.  Quel dick.

A word of advice: if you think you'll be needing a rental car for more than a couple of weeks, ask about leasing options by the month.  Whole lot cheaper.

Next to the Super 8  was the somewhat dumpy looking Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant, unlisted on TripAdvisor but decently ranked on Yelp.  It was totally packed during lunch, which we took as a good sign.
Not as good as what we had enjoyed in Texas and New Mexico, it was still pretty good Mexican food.  I'd go back.
Car returned, bikes at the bike shop, we settled down for some reflection and blog catch-up.  I see that I posted Day #35 and Day #36 on the blog while hanging out..only about a month behind.
